Dear invited guests,

On behalf of the Government of Canada, we are pleased to invite you to the Official Black History Month Virtual Celebration. Hosted by the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, and organized by the Federal Anti-Racism Secretariat at Canadian Heritage, this event will take place on Zoom on Thursday, February 17, 2022, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST. It will also be broadcast live on the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Facebook page and YouTube Channel.

While we cannot celebrate in-person this year, this virtual event will highlight the official theme, “February and Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day” and invite all peoples in Canada to honour and celebrate the resilience and transformative impact of Black communities who are making Black history today and continue laying the groundwork for Black history in the future. This year’s theme reminds us to recognize and reflect on the past and present remarkable accomplishments, experiences, and challenges of Black communities from coast to coast to coast, not only in February, but all year long.

We invite you to share this invitation with your families, friends, and networks.

Special guests include:

  • The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada;
  • The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion;
  • The Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth;
